The name chrysanthemums is derived from the Greek words "chrysos" meaning gold, and "anthemon" meaning flower. First cultivated in China as early as the 15th century BC, Buddhist monks brought them to Japan in AD 400. The Japanese were so enamored by this beautiful flower that it was soon adopted as the emperor's crest and official seal. "Kiku" is the Japanese name for chrysanthemum. Every year there is a National Chrysanthemum Day which is also referred to as the Festival of Happiness.
